So. I thought I ought to end this properly. Having switched over to blankmeridian completely, this will be the final entry. Girlcameron, you've been a wonderful journal, filled with high school pretensions of sophistication and artistry, bitter prom rants, and more wackiness than you can shake a stick at.
A send-off for posterity:
(First-ever livejournal entry)
[24 Jan 2004|03:40pm] [ mood | satisfied ] [ music | Ani DiFranco...don't remember the title ]
so, basically my friend ghostofanangel told me to get a life and meet a few people, for God's sake, instead of getting high off of harry/draco angst. Thus, I am here. Hello all.
GOODBYE DEAR JOURNAL.

[26 Mar 2006|02:02pm] |
For purposes of convenience, I've essentially switched over to what started out as a theoretical fandom/fic journal (and mostly failed, but that's not the issue), blankmeridian. So I'll probably post everything there from now on. I'm pretty sure I've added all of you to it by now; add me as you see fit.

Update, thepiskie, I got FMA 11 for you; that was the latest one that they had.

[09 Mar 2006|10:50pm] |
Just a quick post; thepiskie, I don't think you're on the f-list for my other journal, so I wanted to let you know that I'll be going to the Kinokuniya in L.A. over spring break, and I can pick something up for you if you want. If you don't want anything, don't feel like you have to comment, but if you just let me know through eljay, AIM, or whatever, before Saturday.
And, to check in with people about rides and airports, I know posted in blankmeridian about needing a ride, but the roommate has come to the rescue, and so a ride is no longer a problem. If, however, we're all leaving around the same time and feel like going en masse, that would be cool too. My flight leaves at 11:25 in the morning on Saturday.
Lastly, I just want everyone to know that the keyword for this icon is "rossface!" and it amuses me greatly. Go on. Say it. Rossface! You know it's funny.

Dear People Who Pick Up Books and Don't Put Them Back,
If I ever see you committing this crime I will RIP OUT YOUR SOUL with RUSTY TENTERHOOKS. And possibly beat your body to an unrecognizable pulp with a shovel.
Breathing Fire, RaeAnn
Dear Borders' Children's Lit Section,
You are pants at alphabetical order. You are setting a bad example for the next generation. As they say on Salute Your Shorts, "Get it right or pay the price."
Mildly Miffed, RaeAnn
Dear Hour Wasted,
Fuck you.
Bitter and Sour like Old Milk, RaeAnn
Which is to say, I left for Borders looking forward to reading the first Keys to the Kingdom book and thinking of pleasant things such as the way my new $2 flip-flops allow me to feel the texture of the ground but give me access to public places, and came back composing hate-filled letters to the world. It was actually a rather decent day until that point. Could probably be summarized in the following table:
Desk assistant not charging me for forgetting my key too many times: +2 Acquiring two boxes of Thin Mints: +4 Not getting to read Mister Monday: -20
I'm just going to continue with my very productive fuming now.

Things that have Happened:
Rock-climbing. Was great fun, must repeat. Also, there should be camping up there.
Harry Potter ff.net Drinking Game w/ Mountain Dew (because alcohol would have killed us withing 20 minutes). Was insane, must also repeat.
Justin treating us all to Bamboo Club food. The asparagus was probably my favorite part. Will probably not repeat often, as I have yet to learn how to turn leaves into money. Am working on it.
Seeing Firewall to avoid homework. Actually decent. The dog lived; Paul Bettany died, the office assistant was cool but may or may not have gotten away with that color hair at a bank firm in real life.
Getting sick, missing class (TWO DAYS WORTH! DDD:). Was not fun, must not repeat.
Self-outing at Borders and Chili's. Got Bridge Across Forever and big-ass Bacon Cheeseburger. Generally enjoyed myself.
Matsuri (Japanese culture festival thing). Went with money, stupid feet-hurting shoes, and optimism. Left with dorky Yoruichi figurine (I vow to get the Soi Fong one so they can fight and be angstily in love), different pair of shoes (two dollars!), sunburn, and dire need to get CD of Taiko drums and/or other traditional Japanese instruments. Will definitely repeat next year.
Also, Quizzy-Meme-Thing, gacked from Jere and from Laura, because, you know, self-involved, etc.
( 'Because I'd rather not talk about you dead ex-boyfriends over coffee!' ) Edit: Also, Jere, there is a very special icon waiting for you in my userpics. You will know which one it is.

RAEANN VS. POP-TOP SOUP CAN
Round 1
RaeAnn pulls the pop-ring back, carefree and unsuspecting. It snaps off. RaeAnn desperately tries to reattach it, but the villainous soup can does not relent. Thus, the battle begins.
Round 2
RaeAnn alternates between pleading and swearing for several minutes. Then! An idea! SHE HAS A CAN-OPENER! Newly armed, she rushes back into the fray. However, multiple revolutions around the can's rim produce nothing but one small puncture and no tasty Bacon Cheddar soup. RaeAnn glowers. The can smirks.
Round 3
Hindered by inferior weaponry, RaeAnn turns the useless can-opener into a bludgeon and beats the can, hoping to expand upon the tiny slit and thus savor her victory (and her dinner). But there is no cruelty the soup can will not commit, for it mocks her efforts by spitting drops of broth out of the previously mentioned opening. After one of the deviant's missiles flies into her face, RaeAnn declares war and goes for the Khukri knife.
Round 4
The broad, wicked curve of RaeAnn's Indian Gurkha knife gleams demonically as she holds it poised and ready to strike. Descending, it stabs again and again, showing the soup can no mercy. However, after creating a series of essentially pointless holes, RaeAnn wonders if perhaps this is not the most sensible approach. But with no alternative but starvation or possibly leaving her room to make ramen in the second floor kitchen, she continues to drive the blade into the heartless metal that stands between her and her soup. Eventually, the series of holes connects to make a large, jagged tear. RaeAnn cackles.
Round 5
But the game is not won yet. Although the one-inch tear in the can's lid is indeed a grievous a blow to the cylindrical fiend, the can stubbornly clings to life and does not yield when RaeAnn attempts to pry the rest of the lid off with a pair of scissors. When the can continues to thwart her valiant endeavors, RaeAnn turns back to her tried and true violence, and hacks at the lid with the Khukri once more. Each fruitless assault increases her despair, but she soldiers on, and AT LAST! The can gives way and the lid caves in completely. With a cry of jubilation, RaeAnn cleans her the blood of her enemy (or just the thick, creamy cheddar broth) off the hard steel of her knife. She then heats up her hard-won soup in the microwave, and pops in a movie.

Whot whot? RaeAnn actually updates? It confounds all logic!
(I have been reading Sherlock Holmes, which I went out and bought after Shannon lent me a copy, and the late nineteenth century British writing style has rubbed off on me a little.)
School is actually keeping me busy this semester, which is a nice change. I doubt I check livejournal any more than twice a day, and it's a fairly frequent occurrence for me to go days without touching the internet at all. I'm starting to get the rhythm of Chinese and/or Chinese class, and am strongly considering continuing in it if the Classical Studies certificate can't be done with only two semesters left (although I'll probably try to take a few courses of Ancient Greek regardless). Speaking of languages, the honors group of Japanese met yesterday, and great scholarly-type fun was had. Right now we're getting used to kanji dictionaries, and also familiarlising ourselves with upper-level kanji. Although I already have a Kodansha kanji dictionary, I'd really like a compact Nelson. I think the Kodansha is faster, once you know the system (it uses a different one), but the Nelson has more kanji, and uses the original radical system, which is helpful to know. I could use my Kodansha to look up compunds, since it has more than the Nelson I'd be buying (there's a gigantic hardback Nelson that has more kanji *and* more compunds listed, and trumps all kanji dictionaries anywhere, but I'm not quite willing to shell out seventy dollars plus for it). And then I could use the Nelson to look up lesser-known kanji and to familiarize myself with radicals and their meanings. Now I just have to find out what grotesque price the ASU bookstore is charging for it. But I digress.
After the honors group meeting, Binjiresuku-san, Nobiseru-san (I have no idea how to spell their actual last names...) and I chatted about fandumb-type things, and ended up taking an impromptu field trip to the Chinese Culture Center to pick up supplies for Nobiseru-san's callig class (the same one I had last semester) and putz around at the Asian food market, where green tea ice cream was acquired. That evening, I had dinner with my uncle, since he was in town for a business convention. I got to have Caffe Boa food and not pay for it (despite the requisite protest), and of course my uncle is fun and likeable, so a good time was definitely had.
In other news, Imelda Staunton was confirmed for Umbridge in OotP, and both Luna and Bellatrix were cast. Luna is, of course, an unknown; Bellatrix will be played by one Helen McCrory. I'm witholding judgement on the latter. However, as I was imdb-ing her, I randomly encountered an image of Cate Blanchett, and thte thought occurred: what if Cate Blanchett were to play Bellatrix? I mean, obviously it will never happen, just like Dakota Fanning will never play Luna, but just think about that for a second. CATE BLANCHETT AS BELLATRIX. She would totally rock the house. She would terrify small children. And big children. And pretty much everyone.

I have new books, soup, and a didgeridoo. My life is complete.
Also, have now experienced my first week of classes. The line-up goes:
Japanese: Which I will love until the the end of time, and is not really an issue.
Women's Studies: Aside from the teacher being very different from what I was expecting (I foten have very prejudiced teacher ideas), it looks to be a fun class. We analyzed Barbie, Lara Croft, and Xena dolls on Friday. Additionally, we were assigned to read Bridget Jones's Diary, which did not make me want to die as much as I thought it would.
Chinese: Verrrry different from Japanese, and I'm still getting into the whole tone thing, but I enjoy it as a whole. The teacher is amusing.
Astronomy and Our Position in the Universe (or something): My big honors course this year. We have about ten people in it, and the professor looks exactly the way you would picture a doddering mad scientist to look, with the caterpillar eyebrows and the insane mop of hair waiting to attack you. It's a little slow on occasion, but for the most part I absolutely love it. Also, we get to read up on dark matter. There are hearts.
Jujitsu: Obviously, different from karate, but a lot of the rituals are the same, and it's nice to have some recreational-discipline-type classes in my life again.
Now I just have to get myself a job.
Lastly, everyone should go check out kiwi28, because she has completely gorgeous icons, many from fnadoms I believe most of us have in common (LotR, Harry Potter, NARNIA). Not as big on the humor, but still. Ther is nothing on there that is not amazingly well-done. So.

Gacked from virulain, because zombie survival situations never get old.
The whole ominous hatchet thing is in no way due to the fact that I've seen Serenity too many times. Ignore the icon behind the curtain.

Just a heads up to say that I have more or less completely ignored the computer for the past two weeks or so, and that the thought of checking my flist gives me a headache so I've decided to skip the process completely. If anyone has posted something important, or that they just want me to know about, they're welcome to comment.
Also, here's a big exciting book meme that will no doubt make me feel extremely uneducated (Bold means I have read it, plain means I haven't, commentary is just me blabbing and is entirely optional):
( warning for lenthiness of doom-like proportions )
P.S. I am ridiculously obsessed with my new Phantom of the Opera soundtrack (original cast; my purchasing it now has nothing to do with the semi-recent release of the movie.) Prima Donna is, for some reason, a rather addictive song, and the first "Notes" might be my favorite track, despite not being a major song at all. It's probably because it has lines like "half you cast disappears but the crowd still cheers." *shrug*

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
and all that stuff. To be brief, my acquired loot this Christmas included the Firefly TV series + Serenity, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, War of the Worlds (which is still completely awesome, JUSTIN), Harry and the Potters CDs, some Red Vines, a handful of giftcards and a plethora of assorted knick-knacks. Woot.

Eljay totally just spazzed out and deleted a meme thing that I'd been answering for almost a half-hour. But now, you see, it's become a matter of war and I am thus going to fill it out again. So.
This is probably one of the most self-involved memes I've ever taken, but who knows, maybe you people want to know this stuff, and it might be good to anyway. Actually, it might be good for everyone to do this meme. Thus, onward to the ( guidebook to RaeAnn )

To whoever decided that taking other people's GODDAMN PHISH FOOD ICE CREAM would be fun:
I hope you die an early death. Preferably by getting run over with an ice cream truck.
I mean, seriously. I was looking forward to finishing that off for the entire day. I'm really kind of sad here. ...BUT WAIT! THE MU MARKET DOESN'T CLOSE FOR ANOTHER HOUR! I CAN GO AND GET ANOTHER PINT, AND THEN I WILL HAVE MY CHOCOLATE-AND-MARSHMALLOWY REWARD! ALL IS NOT LOST!
In no way does this negate the fact that I will speak to the proper authorities and arrange for your unfortunate demise-by-tinkly-chiming-vehicle-of-dairy-flavored-doom. Just so you know.
